In case you don’t follow the comments on my blog, there is an interesting exchange under my previous post on the subject.

Optimistic Concurrency
I’ve been looking at synchronization-related concepts lately. It’s been really nice to revisit some ideas/concepts from my PhD years (e.g. consistency models for shared data in distributed environments). ‘Optimistic concurrency’ is a term I’ve encountered a lot and I just read the “Optimistic concurrency – a false panacea” post by Yaro Goland (via Mark Baker).…

“Names and addresses” – a different view
I have discussed the issue of identity, naming, and addresses for large-scale distributed systems in the past (e.g. “Loose-coupling through the relaxation of endpoint assumptions“, “Comparing S-O and O-O as design principles and not as implementation technologies“, “WS-Web (The Web using SOAP:-)“, and more). It’s a topic that keeps coming up. It was part of our…

Yoga!

Back in January, I posted an entry about the IEEE Service Computing Contest (SCContest 2006). A team was formed and only in few months the students delivered with Aad providing excellent direction. Jim and I were monitoring their progress via the…

Alternative Mac Ads
No wonder I thought everyone was taking a break from blogging 🙂 My feeds got really messed up from the many installations of our latest internal Outlook 2007 builds (I am using Outlook as my feed reader these days), and I didn’t notice for few days till today. I was out for dinner yesterday (like…

No more cable
I haven’t really been watching a lot of TV since I came to the US and especially over the last couple of months (I am out most of the time:-) So today I disconnected my cable TV service. I just kept my cable Internet connection. It’s interesting how they are willing to half your monthly…

Zidane
I watched the final with friends at my place yesterday. I still can’t believe Zidane’s action. No matter what he was told, there was no excuse. He’s still, though, one of the best players around and it’s unfortunate that one of his worst moments (we all have some of those) happened at his last international game…
