BTW… after Einar‘s recommendation I’ve been reading “Programming Collective Intelligence“. I am only at the first chapter but it looks like an interesting book.

the Last .fm app is overweight and doesnt shut down properly very often. You can get lighter weight plugins for various players that talk to their servers, give you the mining without the footprint. Amarok builds it in.
