I watched the “Soccer” 🙂 channel for a bit on cable and I saw the end of the interview with the producer of “Goal! The Dream Begins” which is the first movie of a trilogy with a football-related storyline. The producer mentioned Newcastle so I tried to find information about the movie. It seems that the story is about a footballer who becomes a Newcastle United FC player. The trailer for the movie contains many shots of Newcastle and St. James (the Newcastle United FC stadium) which is next to the University.
I loved the Geordie accent and the reference to black pudding in the trailer as well all the shots from Newcastle! (btw, black pudding is pig’s blood… disgusting) Players like Beckham, Zidane, and Shearer are in the film. Should be really fun. Ah! Newcastle! 🙂
I hope this movie gets released in the US soon. I couldn’t find a release date.

I was actually there at one of the matches when they were filming. Extremely disconcerting to see a camera permanently fixed on the crowds… I thought they were terrorist hunting or something, so I hid.
I think it only made it to cinemas in the North-East of the UK as it wasn’t a huge hit, The DVD is on Amazon.co.uk. Einar – that could have been your showbiz break through!
Nah man, I hid I told ya…
Sadly, I never got to see Goal 🙁
If only Zidane played for Newcastle Utd in real life. Mind, if the guy in the film is a better player than certain members of the Newcastle back 4, I think they should’ve signed him :-)))
I absolutely like the storyline and city skyline in the movie. Last Sunday I was at SJP watching match again Chelsea, for the first time I was sitting at East Stand Paddock (the lower end..). Looking high up towards Millburn stand, the view was magnificant as shown in the movie.(much better than looking from the other way round..)
