  1. My blog has had ‘<meta name=”geo.position” content=”45.26666;-75.75″>’ in it for a couple of years. I think such an approach is a lot more workable (read; scalable) than a centralized registry system like GeoURL.
  2. Hi Mark, I know these meta tags and there is also another one which was used by the former geourl.org|com service. However, it still has extracted this information to offer the actual service: getting a list of all sites near a specified location within a particular distance. I probably have not mentioned the way how to request such a list. I have still have to do this since I have realized that most users of the registered sites probably have not worked with geourl.org|com before. An example URL to request such a list is: http://www.geourl.info/near/?lat=51.5567&lon=-0.0505&dist=500000 The ‘dist’ paramter is very large in that example. Consequently, all registeres sites are returned.
  3. Initial reaction: “cool!”. Later reaction: Er, which location am i recording: my home address, the location of the server (unknown!), my location when i write an entry, or the list of locations being discussed? Sounds like a nice “RSS/Atom date” rathole 🙂
  4. Certainly, it would be nice to support the locations from where you write an entry. However, it would be necessary to automate this process then. On possible way might be the ICBM meta data in the header of your main index file. Furthermore, the service should be able to accept pings from you blog system so that it will be up-to-date to new posts as well. As a result of all this, it would produce a lot of traffic and also a large list of URLs. I am not sure, if this would be that nice. However, I am open to good suggestions, how to redefiine and improve the service. For the first step, I think it would be nice to register your site with the location where you mainly resides.
