Microsoft Research is funding a fellowship at the University of Cambridge in the area of e-Science. Here’s the official announcement.

I think this is a great opportunity for a young researcher to pursue her/his interests in the area. Few years ago I would have applied for this without thinking twice (whether I would have been given the post that’s a different matter :-). Even though there is no rent to pay, my current financial commitments and lifestyle are such that I just can’t afford the pay cut in the event I was lucky enough to be offered the post (I am sure the competition will be very high).

I am still very very tempted though. I always wanted to work for or close to Microsoft Research. Now, if only MSR Redmond or Cambridge had an opening in the area of distributed, high-performance, service-oriented computing and/or e-Science 😉
