Which Mac?

If you were to recommend a Mac laptop, which one would it be?

Please note that I am not after a power/dev machine like my Thinkpad T61p but it does have to be fast enough for some modest development tasks.

MacBook Pro (what can I say … I need Firewire for my audio interfaces 😉 ).

  4. Macbook Pro – it’s got enough grunt to develop on, whereas the Air is merely uber-portable.

Although they’re both lovely so why not get both?

  5. I have had a MacBook Air with SSD for a few months now, as well as being light its silent, doesn’t get hot, the battery lasts for 3hours around the office and about 5 hours on a flight, when I shut down the network interface and related apps. On the downside, random people will keep asking to hold it and other laptops will begin to seem unreasonably big and heavy….

Sounds like opinion is divided 🙂 At the end of the day, I’d say it all depends on what level of portability you want – if you’re intending to travel around a lot with it, then go with the Air (tiny, light, loads of battery life), else go with the pro (heavier, more powerful).

I remember not too many years ago you saying Macs were nice looking, but not real computers 🙂

MacBook Pro, on the premise that once you’ve got it, you’ll want to do everything on it.

Your choice, but MacBook Air for a more portable machine, MacBook Pro for a larger display and more intensive tasks.
