Referral spam – How annoying!

My weblog has been getting hundreds of spam referrals per day from poker and casino sites. I don't know what prompted this but it just won't stop. And to think that I hate gambling!!! Grrr!

Does anyone have an idea how to tell them to stop using their crawler on my site? The IP address is not fixed and they don't use a fixed string for their user agent (grrrr!).

UPDATE: Problem fixed with a new version of my weblog software which now checks for spam referrals.

    lr2spam works pretty well for me: http://www.parand.com/say/index.php/2005/04/01/comment-spam-be-gone/ It’s a wordpress plugin, but it’s not a lot of code. You could likely use it as inspiration to create your own version for pblog.
